"Dances with Monsters"
NOT starring the Challengers

52 broke new ground in weekly comics, running an interlinked adventure about six obscure characters from the DCU.  The original premise was to explore every corner of the DC Universe - and cameo every character - but the plan changed, for the better, and not everyone appeared in the 52 issues.

The Challengers didn't make the cut.

But there was a question about some astronauts in
Week 4.  Three men and a woman in snazzy red suits went unnamed.  Some confused fans wondered if they were the Challengers.

They aren't, as the breakdown pages by Keith Giffen prove.  People are simply COMPANY GUY and TEAM LEADER.

Compare the finished pages to the breakdowns and see for yourself.

It would have been a great place to drop in the Challs, especially since Ace has astronaut training.  And Keith Giffen drew the last issue of COTU back in 1978.  But so it goes.

Our heroes are back in Brave and the Bold, courtesy of Mark Waid and George Perez, bless them.
