Lizard aliens called The Horde, "glorified bandits", invade Earth and turn it into a killing field. When superheroes resist, the Horde threatens to kill civilians. Ordinary people and government officials quickly turn against the supers. Anyone in a costume becomes a target. So heroes take off for parts unknown or else go underground. A few continue to resist in the shadows, including the Batman. And the Challengers (not shown). After a year without heroes, the Director of Human Affairs, Lex Luthor, sets up a demonstration of a new "incentive device" to show the masters. Rocky Davis, in chains, "volunteers" for the demo. ![]() The "demonstration" shorts out the energy grid - as planned. Note Rocky's uniform has wings, so should perhaps be yellow and red. |
"Then all hell broke loose." A Blackhawk stealth fighter drops in the resistance's top fighters. Selina Kyle. Jim Harper. Dick Grayson. Ace Morgan. "So many others..." ![]() The heroes don't wear costumes and technically aren't super. They hope to avoid reprisals against civilians in case things go badly. Ace might be somewhere in the picture, but it's not clear. |
"Things went very badly. No one really knows why." ![]() The entire strike team was wiped out. Ace and Rocky would be among them. "There was never another uprising." |
The rest of the story, which continues into another annual, covers how Batman assembles a secret "Super Seven" to battle the aliens. The other Challengers don't appear. |
