The cover uses the same colors except to paint the background black.

This issue contains the original story with no changes. There is a Direct Currents page with some shameless hype. "You'll find some of [Kirby's] finest work in the January Challengers of the Unknown. It's a classic of adventure and suspense entitled "The Mystery of the Ancient Vials." The Challs are one of DC's top features, and there's no one like Kirby to make these death-cheaters come alive in the comic pages." [Bolding added.]

The letters page has more praise for Jack Kirby. One fan also wants to see Deadman (from COTU 74) permanently paired with the Challs. "The Challs were given a new lease on life to become the Legion of Death Cheaters while Boston Brand was awarded a second chance after death to become Deadman." The editor notes, "An inspired idea. We'll see..." One fan loves Corinna Stark, another hates her. And someone else submits an application for the Death Cheaters Club because their car sideswiped a tree.
