Characters: Rocky Davis and every DCU hero and villain in the world.

Synopsis: Supervillains try to take over Metropolis. An army of superheroes big and small oppose on. The battle among Supers and Green Lanterns rockets into space to a bloody conclusion.

Led by the Secret Society run by Alex and Lex Luthor, an army of supervillains descends on Metropolis. If they can take that city, they can take the world, is their claim.

Superman says, "Like Hell."

Superheroes and supervillains brawl in the streets. The Challengers are in the thick. (But not on the cover.)

The only Challenger we see is Rocky, shown here in closeup. He wears the traditional purple jumpsuit with hourglass logo. He's unscathed and holding his own. But then, he WAS the world's heavyweight boxing champion.

Many villains and a few heroes are killed in the battle. Exactly how the Challengers fared remains to be seen. But we have no doubt they covered themselves with glory.

The miniseries was collected as Infinite Crisis in hardcover. The Battle of Metropolis was fully illustrated.

Comments

Infinite Crisis left a lot of fans unhappy. DC's Powers That Be has promised to turn away from gore to a new and sunnier world. So far, this by-the-numbers housecleaning gorefest seems a sad way to do it. But who knows?

For a hilarious and scathing review of the entire crisis, check out Robby Reed's Dial B for Blog.

As for our favorite heroes, as with Villains United Special, we get one small glimpse in one panel. (Trust us, that's all. We went over the entire issue with a magnifying glass.) But one sighting keeps hope alive.

Looking forward to great things from the Challs in the next 52 weeks to come!
